Volunteer Grant Writer/Researcher
Description: Alternatives to Violence Project – Colorado (AVP-Colorado) is dedicated to empowering people in communities and within the criminal justice system in Colorado to make positive life changes for the betterment of themselves, their families, and the community at large. The organization offers workshops for residents of Colorado prisons (and communities) dealing in themes of nonviolence, communication, affirmation and more.
AVP-Colorado is looking for a volunteer seeking to build or expand their grant writing skills. This is an unpaid, volunteer position.
Responsibilities:
Work with board members to seek out grant opportunities for which our organization qualifies
Gather necessary documents for grant application
Write strong grant proposal, collaborating with AVP-Colorado staff and board members as necessary to provide strategic direction or details
Provide all required application documentation in advance of deadlines
Share updates and/or keeping updated documentation on status of grant applications and research
If there is interest, attend board meetings and share grant opportunities and status
Desired skills/interests:
Strong persuasive writing skills
Grant writing experience preferred, but not necessary
Research skills
Grant research experience preferred, but not necessary
An interest in criminal justice with a focus on rehabilitation and reducing recidivism
Strong organizational skills
Experience with Microsoft Office suite
Time commitment: AVP-Colorado is willing to work with volunteers’ schedules and availability.

Responsibilities:
An interest in criminal justice with a focus on rehabilitation and reducing recidivism
Strong organizational skills
Experience with Microsoft Office suite and file-organization programs like Google Drive or Microsoft Sharepoint
Experience with developing organizational strategy and budgeting a plus
Desired skills/interests:
Regularly attend Board meetings and important related meetings.
When requested by the Board, commit to participate in any committee established by the Board.
These can include: communications (website, social media, newsletters), finance, fundraising, grants, program support, donor relations
Stay informed about AVP Colorado matters, prepare for meetings and review and comment on minutes and financial reports.
Agree to participate in a collegial working relationship that. contributes to consensus.
Actively participate in Board evaluation and planning efforts.
Be proactively engaged in and informed about the activities and the needs of the organization.
Participate in fundraising for the organization.
This can include, but is not limited to: helping organize fundraising events, supporting with annual giving programs, donating directly to the organization.
Time commitment: Monthly 1.5-hour meetings, additional meetings as-needed, worktime outside of meetings.
